About Me

I am a member of the Mojave research group at Caltech where I work on various compiler-related research projects.

Publications

  • My Master’s Thesis
  • Jason Hickey, Justin D. Smith, Brian Aydemir, Nathaniel Gray, Adam Granicz, Cristian Tapus. Process Migration and Transactions Using a Novel Intermediate Language. Caltech Technical Report caltechCSTR:2002.007. 2002. [.ps.gz]
  • My interactive Python hacks were written up on O’Reilly’s onlamp.com website.
  • I had one of my Python recipes selected for O’Reilly’s Python CookbookQuicksort in Three Lines. Still, I got a free copy of the book, and at about $30 retail that means I made $10 per line of code. Not too shabby…

Past Research

I have a wide variety of interests and have worked on all sorts of projects. I used to do a lot of work in machine learning. Here are some of the things I did:
  • Applied support vector machines to forecasting foreign exchange markets
  • Studied using the ARAVQ vector quantization algorithm for learning internal representations of environments in robotics and using those representations for autonomous control
  • Explored Pseudocubes, a new representation of boolean functions due to Fabrizio Luccio and Linda Pagli
  • Looked for evidence of compensatory mutations in the Avida digital life environment.
