Ok, looking at that last post I guess I went a bit overboard. Here's the executive summary. If you're running OS X and you want to use a Hewlett Packard printer being shared by another machine on a network, don't use the HP drivers that come on the driver disk! Use the HPIJS driver provided here. You need to create a separate printer for network printing, and the driver you select will have a suffix like “Foomatic/hpijs”. For example, I'm using “HP PSC 2210 Foomatic/hpijs”. Also, you may have to reboot (or just restart cupsd with “kill -HUP” if you know how) to get all of the printer's options to appear in print dialogs.
